When I stop and think about life, I can't help but want to compare it to a float trip down the river. We start out with our coolers, suntan lotion, and everything we need for our relaxing trip down the river. Most of us are lucky enough to have a guide or two with us to tell us what is coming up ahead, but the water is smooth and we know they will take care of us and make sure we make the trip ok, so we don't really pay a lot of attention to what they say.
As we get a little farther down the river
we notice the current is picking up and we get excited as we begin to hear stories about what we might encounter up ahead. We can't get there fast enough, and we feel invincible so no need to listen to the old timer guides telling us what precautions to take and how to prepare when the water starts getting a little rough.

We soon spot a few small rapids ahead and we love the thrill of maneuvering through and around the small rocks sticking up. There are a few spills as some of the floaters lack of experience dumps them in the drink, but most are without injury except to their pride. Moving on we see a few more spills and we lose a floater or two, but most everyone is still having a great time.
Now we hit the real rapids, and we work our butts off maneuvering through dips and turns. It takes all the energy we can muster to keep up with everything that's happening, trying to stay afloat as well as help those that have lost their boats and are struggling. These rapids seem to go on forever, and we lose floaters here and there along the way, some having unexpected and tragic endings. Most, tho tired, are still making progress through the current and enjoying the trip.
Off in the distance now we can see somewhat calmer waters ahead....and we begin to look forward to a slower pace once again. No one knows how long the calm waters will last before we reach the great Niagra Falls of life and our ultimate destination, so it's time to enjoy every day as the gift that it is.
So that's where I am right now... looking forward to the calmer waters ahead. I'm looking for a long ride before reaching the Falls, and am ready to enjoy every day of it.
