Reasons to Roam

This actually isn't our first rodeo.  In 1997, after much thought and planning, we decided to take up full time RVing. Our initial reason for doing so had to do with a light bulb that went off in our heads after I lost my mother to pancreatic cancer in 1991. Life is too short! She was only 61 when she died three months after being diagnosed.

That maiden full-time experience lasted about two years. About six months of that time was spent touring and exploring the country; the rest of time we worked as consultants for Computer Associates and got to experience life living in our motor home while working a regular job. We loved our experiences while full timing as well as all the new friends we met.

Our reason for ending the full time life had to do with family, aging parents and the need to be close by to help out. Being too young to consider retirement, we had to re-consider our options for providing an income. Relocating to a much smaller city than we lived in previously, it was difficult to find jobs in our area of expertise, so we opted to start our own business in a totally new direction. We started The Bee-Line Express, a shuttle service that has provided transportation between Quincy, IL and the St. Louis Airport for 13 years. After much thought and preparation, we now feel ready to switch gears and resume our life on the road.

Closer, but still not quite retirement age we will plan to work part-time to help pay expenses as we travel. As I read blogs of others living this lifestyle I see a lot of creativity and ingenuity in finding opportunities to work remotely. With a laptop and internet access, there are a variety tools available to make the process easier.

A new website www.rvillage.com appears to be a great place to meet members of the RV community and get advice from those who have traveled a few more miles down the road. It will also be a great networking tool for those of us working along the way.

Follow us as we continue to plan and make the decisions necessary to get back out on the road.
